But after Eileen rescues him from his burning pickup truck, he undergoes a complete character reversal, one of many afflicting the proceedings. Eileen seemingly saves the day when she procures a corporate sponsorship from her old high school beau Oliver ( JR Lemon), only to lose her job when it turns out the company providing the funds demands that the event be shorn of any references to Jesus.Ĭontaining Tyler’s usual awkward mixture of comedy and melodrama, the film also features a plotline involving an aggrieved farmer ( Chad Michael Murray) who’s had a long-running feud with Connor. Surprised by her mother’s impromptu arrival, she tells her that he’s just a farmhand, a ruse made more difficult by the arrival of his hillbilly parents (Larry the Cable Guy, Kathy Najimy) whom Eileen treats with undisguised hostility.Ī major plot element involves the threatened cancellation of the town’s Christmas Jubilee, which has the natives up in arms. Cue the endless culture clashes, as it turns out that Eileen hasn’t told her racially intolerant mother that she’s actually married to Connor ( Eric Lively), a white small-time farmer. The endlessly contrived plot has Madea reluctantly accompanying her niece Eileen ( Anna Marie Horsford) to a small town in Alabama after the latter’s schoolteacher daughter Lacey ( Tika Sumpter) announces that she won’t be coming home for Christmas. Marking his latest drag turn as the titular character with impulse control issues, Tyler Perry’s A Madea Christmas is one holiday gift that should be quickly returned. The prolific multihyphenate media mogul has pumped out an endless array of movies in recent years, but his latest effort ranks as one of his very worst. You’d think by sheer dint of experience that Tyler Perry would be a better filmmaker by now. Plus, he's not grounded-swinging with his suit's tentacles gets him nearly anywhere Spidey can go. Venom is a brawler and uses his symbiote tentacles to lash and grab his enemies, making for a much more brutal experience. He doesn't have the Superball agility of Spider-Man, but he makes up for it in strength. I was much more psyched to control Venom. Playing as Spidey felt fine, if a bit predictable. While this lacks the realism of Spider-Man 2's building-to-building gliding, it does make getting around the metropolis a tad easier. I also noticed that the developers have switched back to the infinite web-swinging of the first movie-based game. It's a bit chaotic, but I was able to get the hang of it after a few minutes. Rather than beating up one enemy before moving to the next, it's better to give one guy a few punches, jump-kick another dude, and then score a few hits on a third enemy before finishing off the first guy. So, combat this time around is more about engaging multiple targets by bouncing between them. Remember, he's only 15 years old in the Ultimate universe, so he hasn't quite perfected his fighting chops yet. Here, Spider-Man controls a little differently than you might expect. Expect a parade of copycat comic-book games in its wake. Also, the art team deftly dodges the pitfalls of other cartoon-style games by giving the characters more detail and shadowing to prevent the "flat" look. Thankfully, my fears were unfounded: The visuals really look like Mark Bagley's comic illustrations, but in fluid 3D motion. I was admittedly skeptical at first, as I didn't want this to turn into a cartoony game for tots. How was it? I can't comment on USM without first tackling its graphics-the game employs the same underlying engine from Spider-Man 2, but with a new comicbook-inspired visual style. Cue the player-controlled death-tentacles choking Aunt May. You'll be consuming pedestrians, throwing cars, and generally wreaking havoc as this otherworldly antihero. Yep, you can take the fan-favorite villain for a destructive stroll around New York City. But this game sports a twist its film-derived cousins sorely lack: Venom. Like the previous titles based on the Spider-Man movies, USM unfolds in an open-ended, mission-based fashion-some tasks will advance the plot, while others simply allow you to zip around New York City spreading do-goodery. Of course, it's still a console game, so expect dodgy camera angles and even dodgier controls, but with aĭecent PC joypad this becomes well worth a spin for Spidey fans. Complete enough tasks and you unlock the next episode of the story, which is told through clever XIII-style comic-book narrative. The gameplay mainly involves swinging through busy streets (which is great fun, superbly animated and just looks cool), locating various tasks such as races and rescues, and doing everything a spider can. Surprisingly, it's not bad - far better than the pathetic PC version of Spider-Man 2. Such a confusing circle of references leads us to this, a cel-shaded, comicbook styled, free-roaming romp around Manhattan as the lycra-laden arachnid. So here's the game of the new comic-book series, which is loosely based on the movie, which in turn is a bastardisation of the original comicbook series. It's more likely that the marketing types just thought the word sounded cool, ignoring trivial things like etymology and definitions. The 'Amazing', 'Essential' and 'Spectacular' prefixes all filled their roles as meaningless pieces of superlative, but surely naming its next franchise 'Ultimate Spider-Man' implies that this is the final and terminal retelling of the web-slinging hero's story. Marvel pulled out a bit of a doozy when fishing around in its magic hat full of market-friendly buzzwords, to stick in front of its latest Spider-Man series. Organic search results aren’t paid for or influenced by businesses. Organic results vs AdsĪnother important term you’ll hear as you continue to learn about Search and SEO is “organic.” Organic means that the search results are appearing in order of relevance to what the person typed into the search box. This means that when someone types “gluten-free cupcakes” into a search box and they are based in your hometown, they’re more likely to see your website in the results, whereas someone typing the same search from a different country probably wouldn’t see your business. In order to present the most useful results first, Google may consider factors like user’s location and language, for example, in addition to the words they searched. When a user types something into a search box, Google looks through its massive library of content to figure out which web pages would be most relevant to the user. Once your website has been indexed, Google not only knows the website exists, but it has looked through the product pages on your site and understands that you sell 10 different kinds of cupcakes, including gluten-free cupcakes. Let’s go back to the example of your cupcake website. We’ll explore how to do this in future lessons, or if you’re feeling ready, you can explore the SEO Starter guide. When it comes to SEO, one thing you can do is make it easier for Google to understand the content of your page. Once Google has found your website, it analyzes the content on your page and organizes it in Google’s library of information. Once your website has been crawled, Google knows this website exists. Let’s say you have a website where you sell cupcakes. Usually, the way Google finds a new website is by following links from one website to another. Step 1: CrawlingĬrawling is the term used for how Google discovers new information to add to its catalog. Off-site videos (such as videos hosted on YouTube or Vimeo) boost traffic and generate social shares, as well as backlinks.Let’s recap the journey Google goes through to gather information from across hundreds of billions of webpages to find, understand and present your website to Search users. Video content has become particularly important for SEO over the last few years. Under the right circumstances, it can do wonders for a site’s ranking. This is a form of marketing in which you focus particular attention on people with a strong reputation and a lot of followers in your industry. Content shared on social media can significantly boost page rankings because shared content gets indexed, builds authority and, most importantly, involves real people. Guest blogging is one of the most important tactics for increasing the number of links to your website. The proper placing of links in a natural context and with adequate anchor text is also essential. The best backlinks come from websites that meet the criteria of E-A-T: Expert, Authoritative and Trustworthy. The process of getting other websites to link back to your website. They help search engines read and understand your pages, and they improve user experience. These HTML tags are used to identify headings and subheadings. This is the practice of adding links on your pages that point to other pages on the same website. Also known as an alt attribute or alt description, an alt tag is an HTML attribute that’s added to an image with the purpose of providing a textual description of that image for search engines. It serves as a roadmap for search engine crawlers. A sitemap is a list of all the URLs on your site. Ideally, it should be between 0.5% and 3%. This represents the number of times you used your keyword or keyphrase compared to the total number of words in your content. The structure should, ideally, be: -level domain/folder or path/page/anchor. An SEO-friendly URL should be short, concise, with words separated by hyphens, and in lowercase. Google keeps changing the preferred length of meta descriptions, but it’s generally around 150 characters. These are brief summaries of the page displayed below the title tag on SERPs. Their structure should consist of primary keyword+secondary keyword|brand name. According to best SEO practices, title tags should be between 50 and 60 characters long. A title tag should provide an accurate description of the content it’s linked to. A title tag is an HTML element that represents the title of your page and the clickable title listed on SERPs. It should be well-written and long-form, if possible. This means content that is relevant to the subject. Sadly, Nintendo fans will have to wait longer for a truly great portable crime sandbox experience. IF, and that's a big IF, they heavily patch this game, I'm talking massive overhaul patches for performance, maybe I'd feel comfortable recommending this one.īut currently, even the original PS3 or 360 versions would give you a better experience (not to mention PC). To put it simply, it's like trying to fit a square peg in a round hole.Ĭurrently, not at all worth a buy. According to DF, a lot of the things that make the SR3 game engine "tick" just don't work well on hardware like the Switch, in particular its deferred rendering system. However, there may just not be much Deep Silver could have done here. It was to the point that even doing the basics of gameplay like driving and shooting became quite difficult in comparison to the other versions of the game.ĭF notes that this SR3 port is one of the worst they've ever looked at on Switch, and rate it as "just above Ark: Survival Evolved" in the port hierarchy. It can really ruin the playability of a game, and hopefully it gets patched. Otherwise, world detail and textures appear identical between versions.ĭF notes that unfortunately, the Switch port has very bad input latency, meaning that the amount of time from when you input a control, to when that input actually happens on screen, is quite long. Shadows, while already pretty low-res on PS3/360, actually appear even worse on Switch, with more noise and artifacts. It may just be down to time of day, but it even happens in buildings where time of day shouldn't effect things very much. Sometimes scenes will have different color compositions. Sometimes PS3 will have higher bloom, sometimes Switch will. There appear to be some subtle scene differences between the 2 versions as well. Texture filtering is a bit better on Switch. LOD's (the distance at which objects pop-in) appear to be pretty much identical between Switch and PS3/360. The Switch's image quality looks more jarring in comparison between the actual screen resolution of 1080p and the graphics buffers at 540p. Overall, even though the Switch has a higher resolution, the PS3 and 360 versions look more "consistent". It should be noted, however, that the PS3 and 360 versions used similar techniques, DF knows that some of the effects on PS3 render at 800x450. So while the image is cleaner overall than the PS3/360 versions, it can still appear quite jagged, and the depth of field in particular looks quite ugly. However, many parts of the image may appear quite blocky or aliased, and the reason for that is because many of the other effects in use are done at quarter resolution (960x540 while docked, 640x360 in portable), including things like alpha effects, depth of field and transparencies. The Switch version runs at 1080p while docked, and in 720p while in portable mode. The PS3 and 360 versions of the game both ran at 720p. In portable mode, performance is still really bad, but oddly slightly faster than in docked. However, it's during action where Switch plummets and PS3 generally stays more stable. In general, during standard traversal, the Switch and PS3 versions are about equal with each other, within around 1 to 4 fps. Any major action scenes at all will result in frame rates dropping below 20 fps, into the 15 to 18 range, and drops as low as 12 to 14. Now, for Switch.oh boy.just like PS3 and 360, the Switch version is unlocked, but the frame rate is actually even worse. 360 uses adaptive V-sync (so, tons of screen tearing) but has more stable frame times. In terms of differences between the two, PS3 uses triple-buffered V-sync (so no screen tearing) but has less stable frame times. I think people often forget just how awful a lot of later 7th gen games actually ran, and this is proof of that. However, sequences below 20 fps are also there, dropping as low as 15 to 17 fps at points. Instead, long, stuttery stretches of 25 to 35 fps were the norm. The console versions ran unlocked, but never got anywhere near 60 fps. On PS3 and 360, SR3 already didn't run very well at all. While we’re usually fairly laid back, it was clear that people were taking this worse than we imagined.” “Honestly, go f*** yourself. “Gradually the responses became more intense People started bringing out the slurs and calling for us to be doxxed and/or murdered. “Of course we knew people would be disappointed and that there would be a few harsh responses but it felt relatively light-hearted for the most part.” While the early comments were more finger-wagging than malicious, that soon changed. “Initially it seemed to go as expected,” James said. Then on April Fools’ James revealed the joke. By then the screenshots had already made their way to sites like r/NintendoSwitch on Reddit and 4chan. “But in the following days the telephone-game effect kicked in and soon enough the source was somehow ‘an insider at Nintendo of Japan.’ Things got a little scary then.” The team released the “leaks” online three days before April 1 with a plan to reveal themselves on April Fools’. “It was wild that any outlets picked it up at all to be honest, especially when the first few cited the source as being ‘some random people on a Discord server.’ Like, that wouldn’t normally strike you as being remotely trustworthy, right?” James said. James told IGN he has no idea how the screenshots leaked from their Discord server, but the images were soon being picked up by Nintendo fansites as legitimate leaks. You can check out some of the assets in the gallery below. Together, the team created several “leaked” screenshots of a new Flipnote App coming to the Switch, complete with a fake title screen. Other contributors included Calcium who created the artwork, Liss who contributed a fake Japanese translation, and Austin and Rob from Sudomemo, a website dedicated to sharing Flipnote creations long after the service was shuttered officially. Art Credit: Calcium UI: James Translation: LissJames organized the effort and designed fake UI. Mock-ups for the fake Flipnote app for Switch created for April Fools. That spurred the developers to try and flesh out the concept and present fake screenshots of a “leaked” Flipnote Switch app for the community’s annual April Fool’s joke. While the community member in question wasn’t very pleased with the glib response, another developer on the channel was briefly fooled. YES NO“Towards the end of March, somebody who apparently wasn’t aware of the joke started to get on our case about rather aggressively, thinking we were intentionally tricking the community.” As a response, James created a quick mock-up in Sketch, a design program, and presented it to the community. It has dropped the dedicated knobs for Volume, Tempo and Swing, and in their place is a single fat, pushable encoder, plus extra buttons as compensation. The new model is the same size as its forerunner and a little heavier, at 2.1kg. This review concentrates on the full-sized Maschine controller but there's also a MkII version of the smaller, cheaper Mikro. This should come as some relief to existing owners who might be feeling slightly miffed. However, apart from the coloured pads, the two are functionally almost identical. In comparison, even the stylish earlier model looks a bit cautious. The Maschine MkII hardware is undeniably a thing of beauty. If you were ever tempted by Maschine in the past, the theory is that you'll now be massively tempted. As a further sweetener, Massive - Native Instruments' bass and lead synth - joins the package. Sadly, there's no way to physically transform the older controllers into multi-hued marvels, but existing users can at least enjoy the new effects and other enhancements this update brings. Colour now shines at the heart of the Maschine's universe and, thanks to upgrades in the host software, it can be applied as extravagantly or as sparsely as your taste dictates. Hot on the heels of last year's trimmed-down Maschine Mikro are two eye-catching new hardware controllers for Native Instruments' Maschine. Maschine's MkII hardware gets a Technicolour make-over, while its software increments to v1.8.
